Broadcast State was formed by Gareth Schott (guitar; sink \ sink, Ancient Tapes), Kent Newth (guitar; Rumpus Room), Gavin McDermott (drums; Sora Shima), Andrew Newth (guitar; Southern Tribe, Rumpus Room) and Scott Newth (vocals, bass; Rumpus Room, System Corporation). Their debut gig was at the 3rd Annual HUP Xmas Party in 2018. Other significant gigs have included Future City Festival 2019.

By late 2022, Schott and McDermott had left, with McDermott replaced by Nathan Bregman. This lineup played Last Place supporting Grok in late 2022.
