Amy Racecar formed in Napier in 1989 and subsequently moved to Hamilton. The band has existed in various forms since this time, having comprised of a total of 20 members. They were the bestest band in the [[Generator]] [[Battle of the Bands]] in [[Battle of the Bands 2004|2004]].
