David "Div" Vercoe, from Hamilton, is best known as the first drummer for Split Ends (which later became later Split Enz). He was initially brought in to the band to drum on the recording of the song For You. He did not play on the B-side of the single, titled Split Ends. However, he was involved in the writing of the song Stranger than Fiction, but according to Mike Chunn's book Stranger than Fiction, was evicted from the band soon after as he became increasingly difficult to deal with. He had previously been in the bands Molly, and OK Dinghy with Ray Goodwin, who descibed him as the strangest, nerdiest eccentric chap.
