Anteapot were formed in Hamilton in the early 1970s, evolving out of OK Dinghy, by Todd Hunter (bass, vocals; ex-Zeke and Heavy Pork), Ray Goodwin (guitar; ex-The Jacob Manning Group); Don Bedgegood (guitar; ex-Movement) and Larry Abbott (drums; ex-Movement). Hunter had moved to Hamilton to attend Waikato Teachers College in 1970, but did not complete his schooling there. The band gained residency for three months at Tabla 2, but were unable to pull large crowds. They band soon changed their name to Staff, and Hunter and Goodwin went on to form Dragon.
