The band toured the album throughout New Zealand in 1987, and played Auckland's ''Power Station'' in a Battle of the Bands competition the same year. Ebony Sye were a new wave/rock band active between 1984 and 1989. Although formed in Waihi, they were for a time based in Hamilton. Their debut album If You Want To Be King (Ode Records; SODET 270) was released in 1987. The band toured the album throughout New Zealand in 1987, and played Auckland's Power Station in a Battle of the Bands competition the same year. The band played their final concert in 1988, and split up in 1989.

Singer and guitarist Niel de Jong later formed band Voodoo Love (1991-1993). Since 2010, his two sons formed and have been members of the metal band Alien Weaponry.
