''WakaChickaWaka'' formed in Hamilton in 1996.The name was dreamed up by matthew amoore for a band name so that he could play solo at a gig being organised by mike millar( tsunami band ). The name wakachickawaka is derived from the sound a wahwah guitar produces when muted . They recorded a nine track tape in 1996 (at the beat syndicte with Tobin Pescud in exchange for business cards)titled [[WakaChickaWaka album|WakaChickaWaka]].the band went through a second lineup later that year with simon saunders departing from guitar duty and taking an active role as designer and publisher of wakachickawaka promotional material .a number of stylish posters and fliers were produced  featuring alien beings and beautifull bikini clad women and a few originals survive in various peoples bottom draws around nz. Hamish Cormack replaced Clare Baker on the drums.

This new lineup played at a few hamilton parties and at the J.B.C (jazz blues concept bar )in hamilton  .Wakachickawaka made a further two recordings (one of which has been lost)at another homestudio garage (name of producer a mystery )these were live recordings and have never been released to the public though a cd release of wakachickawaka's Greatest hits that never happenend is in the pipeline for release sometime in the near future.
