Amy Racecar formed in Napier in 2001 and subsequently moved to Hamilton. The band has existed in various forms since this time, having comprised of a total of 20 members. They were winners of the Generator Battle of the Bands in 2004.
Amy Racecar released their debut album Conclusions in early 2007, prior to making the jump across the ditch to Melbourne. Gareth and Ashwin left the band at this point, electing to stay in New Zealand.
