Pugnaut existed from around 1995-1997, and included Igor de Borst (vocals), Kane Davey (guitar), Christian Livingstone (guitar), Louisa Soanes (bass) and Ben Cole (drums). The band self-released two EP-length cassettes, Interstellar Radium Discharge in 1996, and The Intelligent Bear in 1997. The band had the song Jimmy the TFC included on the 1996 compilation In Love With This Town. The band also made the finals of the "Hatching Battle of the Bands", performing at the Powerstation in Auckland on November 15 1997. Soanes played in the final immediately after having a cast removed from her wrist, having broken it on the night of the semi-finals on September 13.
Livingstone went on to Trinket (1997-2000) and The Datsuns (2000-present). Cole also joined the Datsuns in late-2006, as a replacement for original drummer Matt Osment. Soanes went on to Tobermorie and Inspector Moog. Davey is involved with the post industrial act Distorture, and is a guitarist for Disjecta Membra.
