Xiyao Chen (a.k.a. Yao) has been a member of Eastbound Train, Red Dynasty, DragonSoul and Knightshade. He plays gu-zheng and keyboards.
Yao was born and raised in Beijing, China, moving to New Zealand in 2002. He has lived in Hamilton since 2004. In 2011 he released an album of traditional and contemporary pieces on the gu-zheng, titled The Great Mountain, Floating River. Other than the bands he has been a member of, he has contributed to recordings by The Shrugs and Aum.
