The first performance by System Corporation featured Scott Newth (vocals, bass), Andrew Newth (guitar, keyboards; both of Rumpus Room) and Phil Buscke Somervell (The Datsuns; on drums), where they covered 'X' by Bailterspace at the Flying Nun 30th Anniversary Tribute Night at Static on 19 November 2011, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of record label Flying Nun. The band released their first single, Dismal Universal Hiss, on 28 April 2017. Their next performance was not until Future City Festival 2018, on 10 March 2018, at which point the band has expanded to include Kent Newth (guitar), Alan Deare (bass) and Ben Cole (drums, percussion), while Buscke Sommervell moved from drums to guitars. A few days later, they released their first EP, Apathy is Easy, on 16 March 2018.
