The Knives were active around 1980, playing a mix of punk originals and covers. The band played a number of times at University of Waikato, including support for Auckland post-punk band The Techtones. The band comprised Mark Holdom, Wayne Buckley and John Duncan. The band evolved out of The Ritz and The Rich Kids (Buckley, Holdom, Duncan and Jeff Howell).
