Aether was formed in April 2004 by two old high school friends, Nathan Bregmen (drums) and Ashwin Singh (bass), along with Hayden Tauroa (vocals) and Gareth Bradley (guitar; ex-Vetox).
They have performed regularly in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga bars, have played radio live-to-air sessions, and slots in larger local events such as the Vampyres' Ball, the Pagan Festival and the Nightbreed Festival. The band had their final gig at Ward Lane on 10 March 2007.
