Illegal Green was a high school band, who won a Waikato Battle of the Bands competition sometime in the 1980s or early 1990s. The band included Jacob Nooyen (vocals), who went on to be the winemaker at Vilagrad Winery, with Elliot Billings (guitars), Michael Kennedy (bass) and Blair Dowling (drums).

They released one 'double A side' single in 1993, featuring the songs Mary Mary, written by Tim Armstrong, and an original, Why Don't You Want Me. Both appear on the 2015 compilation Hamiltune - Rockin' the Tron in the 80's, released following a fire at Vilagrad Winery.
