The Third Blues Band was formed as a blues band in Hamilton in 1963. Members were Richard Ormsby (harmonica, vocals), Gordon Hopa (bass), Jack Nepia (drums), Dave Pou (guitar) and Ray Goodwin (guitar). The band was initially influenced by the likes of Buddy Guy, Fleetwood Mac and Blues Breakers, but later became more influenced by British bands such as Led Zeppelin, Hendrix and Cream. They therefore changed their name to The Jacob Manning Group. Goodwin went on to Ok Dinghy and Dragon.
