Paul Martin was a host of the hard rock/heavy metal show Axe Attack on Contact 89FM from early 1987, before moving the show to Rock 93 FM in 1992. By 1999 the show was being broadcast nationally. He was guitarist for Wellington band Tyrant in the early 1980s, Fury in the late 1980s, Blackjack and Knightshade in the early 1990s, and has done so for World War Four (also vocals) since the late 1990s and Devilskin in the 2000s. In between, he released a solo mini-album titled Nightfall in 1990, and had a track of the same name on HUM Sampler 92.
Paul started his own record label "Hellman Records" to promote New Zealand metal, with the labels first CD release being Axe Attack Metal CD Compilation Vol 1. Since 1988 he has run the annual Gemini Party to celebrate his birthday, and he owned the Heavy Metal bar 6ft Under between 2004 and 2006.
