Formed in 1991 following the split of The Alchemist by Ross Holloway (guitar, vocals), and Stan Jagger (now on drums) with the addition of Chris Paki (guitar, vocals) and Jagger's former Mudpeople bandmate Adam Hyde on bass. Hyde was later replaced by Adrian Scott of Cygnet Committee.
They had six songs on the 1991 album A Decade on the Hamilton Underground, an album that documented the songs of Holloway's various bands, on Orange Recordings. The tracks performed and recorded by the Pregnant Hippies were mostly Alchemist songs.
