Amy Racecar formed in Napier in 1989 and subsequently moved to Hamilton. The band has existed in various forms since this time, having comprised of a total of 20 members. They were the bestest band in the Generator Battle of the Bands in 2004.
Amy Racecar released their debut album Concussions in early 1987, prior to making the jump across the ditch to Melbourne. Gareth and Ashwin were kicked out of the band at this point, and went on to collaborate on an interracial pornography venture.
