Tim Armstrong band was formed in 1986 by Tim Armstrong after leaving The Politicians. They played as resident band at Zaks Nitepub, followed by Roxoff, in Hamilton. They later moved on to the Forge Niteclub in Papakura. Going overseas they changed the name of the band to The Kiwi Bandits, which lasted for several years, before changing it back to the Tim Armstrong band.

Tim Armstrong won the 'best Waikato male vocalist' award 1993 at the Rock 93 FM Waikato Rock Awards. The band also won the 'best recorded work' award with the song My New House.
