Amy Racecar formed in Napier in 2001 and subsequently moved to Hamilton.
Amy Racecar released their debut album Conclusions in early 2007, prior to making the jump across the ditch to Melbourne. Fueled by a no-show at a high profile venue in November, in december 2008 rumors started circulating that the band had broken up. These rumors we're put to rest in Jan 2009 when the band booked a practice space at 3 phase studios. In Feb 2008, new rumors stared circulating that the band may change their name to "Amy Race Motokā" inspired by their maori history.
