The Narcs were formed in 1980 in Christchurch by Tony Waine (bass), Bob Ogilvie (drums) and Garth Sinclair (guitar). Lineups changed over time, including the addition of Liam Ryan (keyboard) in 1983. The band had the song with the song "Heart and Soul", written by Ryan, peak on the New Zealad charts at number 4 (13 weeks in the charts). Ryan later moved to Hamilton to take a position at Wintec, and in 2000 a remake of "Heart & Soul" was released as the theme song for Hamilton's new millennium.
