Haydn Butler (Guitars/Vocals), Wayne Bowman (Guitars/Vocals), Charlie (Bass Guitar) and Rory (drums) were seen as Perpetual tryers, The Lobes entered the annual Battle of the Bands competitions in 1995, 1996 and 1997. However, they failed to make the finals on all three occasions. The height of their successes saw the track 'freak' reached number 3 on the contact FM charts.
