Pieces of Cod. Mad, bad and dangerous to know! This band was the brain child of Steven purdy and Simon Endres and formed in the late 80's. It lasted several years working with a range styles from orginal Punk to ska to power pop as well as a few well chosen interpretations of other peoples music. They had many great gigs which totally rocked, supporting other bands and being supported by them in Hamilton, Auckland, new Plymouth. Vocalist Gavin Hamilton was to gain the esteemed distinction of receiving a review from Kenneth Browne published by Rip it up magazine where his vocals were considered abysmal.(I can't even spell it!) Grant Blackler played lead guitar and Shane Coolan eventually became the mainstay drummer. Several recording sessions were held and somewhere out there in the misty Waikato there exists some excellent recorded gems. They received good commendation from U.S. Student Radio for "Amphetamine" on the Ima Hit Records complition produced by Brian Wafer in New Plymouth (1990?) Unfortunately, they never quite received the fame and riches which they felt they were due. Eventually the band went their separate ways with Simon Endres moving to New York. Vocalist Gavin "Olewang" Hamilton ended up in Nelson where he performs with bands "Limozine", "Toxic Fridge Magnets", and Slippery groove Tube'. Yes, his vocals still suck, but he's pretty sure that he'd do better than Kenneth Browne any day of the week. (Up yours Ken!!!) Pieces of Cod R.I.P.
