Psyclops
Formed in Cambridge, 1994, Psyclops were Jeremy Cole (bass, vocals), Chris Cole (guitar), Adam Wyatt (guitar) and Dylan Raethel (drums). In 1995 they released the 5-song cassette Defaced which was received well by Australia's Heavy Metal Magazine and gained good airplay from The Rock 93FM in Hamilton. They were often described as "Groove Metal" and compared to Metallica, although many New Zealand metal enthusiasts have been quick to point out that they were not "copy-cats". They have also been likened retrospectively to Chuganaut, whose guitarist Nail was originally the manager for Psyclops. Psyclops released the CD album Let The Mutilation Begin in 1996, after which they were regarded by many as one of New Zealand's leading metal bands of the day. They broke up due to other commitments and a lack of live venues and general support for original metal bands in Hamilton and the greater Waikato area at this time.
