Echoes

Echoes were a rock/funk group formed in 1982. The band started playing only a small proportion of originals, brought over from Rik Bernards’ previous band Stage II and Murray Ferguson’s from The Break. Through time, the number of originals increased to around 30 to 40%. The band released one single, Places, in 1984, which they played on music program Shazam that year. They appeared on the program again in November 1985 playing What's Your Problem Tonight. Although the band recorded eleven tracks at Azimuth Studios in Auckland, they couldn’t get backing to release an album. Mark Rimington and Murray Ferguson were the primary songwriters, although Phil Walsh also contributed some songs.

Rimington went on to star in the 1986 production of the Rocky Horror Show with Sir Rob Muldoon and Russell Crowe. Downey played for The Politicians from 1984-1990, and for The Mods at their 1994 30th anniversary concert. Fergusson and McCreesh played together in a band called Split Image following the breakup of Echoes.
