The Trends
From HtownWiki
The Trends were a band who played surf music that formed in Hamilton in the 1960s, featuring Ken Murphy (guitar, vocals), Robert O'Donnell (lead guitar), Greg O'Donnell (bass) and Sean Kelly (drums). They initially formed as The Spectres (the O'Donnell's, Kelly and guitarist John Metherell), a group of catholic schoolboys from St Johns College, who played covers of songs by The Shadows. The Trends were regulars at a venue called The Three Musicians on Victoria St. They changed their name to The Music Convention when they moved to Auckland in 1966. Under this name they released six singles and one EP, including the soundtrack to Children of the Sun, New Zealand's first ever surf movie.
